President Sirleaf removes UL President Dr. Conte

Monrovia, Liberia - President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf removed Dr. Al-Hassan Conteh as the 12th President of the University of Liberia and has been named Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary, a position usually meant to pave the way for an appointment as an Ambassadorship.
An Executive Mansion release issued Monday night, also named Wilmot J. Paye, Assistant Minister for Land Transport, Ministry of Transport; Mr. Augustus Wloba Williams, Assistant Minister for Administration, Ministry of Transport, and Mr. Albert K. Samukai, Deputy Director General for Administration, Liberia Broadcasting System. The appointments, the release said, are subject to confirmation by the Liberian senate.
Prior to his appointment at UL, Conteh earned his doctorate at the University of Pennsylvania in 1993 and previously served as a member of the African Studies Center at the University of Pennsylvania and the Geography and Urban Studies Department at Temple University. Conteh was also a Research Fellow at the Solomon Asch Center for Study of Ethno-political conflict at Pennsylvania from 2001 - 2005.
