UNMIL Press

The Liberian Government, civil society and the UN Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) will jointly host a one-day Forum on incessant attacks on officers and assets of the Liberia National Police (LNP) on Wednesday, 26 March at 10:30am at the Monrovia City Hall.

This Forum is expected to stem the tide of attacks on the LNP all over the country by helping to create public understanding of the processes of rule of law and the extent of the responsibility of LNP in the dispensation of justice. The meeting will also devise ways of conveying effective public education on the implications of destroying landmark institutions during protests and further emphasize the position of the law on mob actions and other extra-judicial practices.

Representing the Liberian Government are the Ministries of Justice, Internal Affairs, Information, Culture and Tourism, and members of the House of Representatives. Also attending the Forum are civil society organizations including Community Policing Forums, the Council of Chiefs, Catholic Justice and Peace Commission, Human Rights organizations, the Liberia Council of Churches, National Muslim Council, Student Organizations, Women in Peace Building Network, Press Union of Liberia, Liberia National Law Enforcement Association, Liberia Marketing Association, and Women NGO Secretariat of Liberia.
